External pressure can change behavior without changing desire.
The new covenant moves us from outside-in conformity to inside-out transformation.
Hebrews 8:6 – “The covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises.”
I. A New Heart
Hebrews 8:10b – “I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts.”
II. A New Belonging
Hebrews 8:10c – “I will be their God, and they shall be my people.”
III. A New Relationship
Hebrews 8:11b – “They shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.”
IV. A New Freedom
Hebrews 8:12 – “I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.”
Four Better Promises
- A new heart
- A new belonging
- A new kingdom where everyone knows the King
- A new freedom grounded in mercy
Takeaways
1. Bring God Your Actual Heart
What does this repeated pattern reveal about what my heart actually wants?
2. Live From Belonging
You are not auditioning for a place with God.
Live from belonging, not for belonging.
3. Be Present With God
God is present—but are you present with him?
Where is God challenging you, and where might you be giving God credit for a reflection of yourself?
4. The Better Mediator
The better promises depend on the better mediator.
The promise of the new covenant is not that you can fix yourself from the outside in.
Through Jesus, God transforms his people from the inside out.
